USS HENRICO APA-45 FINAL REUNION

Fri., Sept. 17:  LANDMARKS OF ST. LOUIS TOUR:  9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.:

            A narrated tour of downtown St. Louis, includes a view of the Old Cathedral, Old Courthouse, the Riverfront, the city’s original settlement, now a nine block-historic district, at Laclede’s Landing, where  you will have a choice of taking a tram ride up into the famous ARCH, or visit the museum.  Lunch at Hannegan’s.  Then on for a narrated bus tour of the Busch Brewery complex that covers 100 acres and includes 70 buildings, among them the Fermentation Building, the Packaging and Bottling plant and a visit with the famous Clydesdales.  Then a stop in the hospitality room to sample the Anheuser-Busch products.   $73.00 includes bus fee, tour guide, lunch, all taxes, admission fees, and gratuities.

 

Sat., Sept. 18:  HISTORY MAKING MOMENTS:  9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.:

            The day begins with a visit to the Veterans Memorial Walk dedicated with honor to all men and women who have served in the United Sates Armed Forces of all eras.  Sixty-four pairs of bronze military boots marching in unison lead from the reflecting wall so that you may march in the shoes of the fallen soldiers. POW/MIAs are honored with a single pair of bronzed boots placed at the military boot in the common link between all Military forces and represents everyone equally regardless of race, creed, religion, culture and state or hometown.  Chaplain Donald Orrell will present a short memorial service to our shipmates that have fallen since the Norfolk, VA reunion.

            Next, we will visit St. Charles, MO, known as the Doo-Dah capital of the world. Ladies you will be in shopping heaven.  This is the oldest town on the Missouri river and has been carefully preserved as a river town and welcoming visitors since 1769.  The Red Hat Ladies will lunch at the Mother-in-law Restaurant, while the men will  lunch at The Trail Head Brewery.  Following lunch you are on your own to shop, tour Missouri’s first Capitol, or the Lewis & Clark Nature Center, where the lower level houses replicas of the three boats of the Lewis & Clark discovery Expedition and the upstairs of the Nature Center is a “hands-on” museum that follows the trail.

            Or walk a short distance and try your luck at the riverside Ameristar Casino, which has 3,300 slot machines and 95 gaming tables.  $69.00, which includes bus fee, tour guide, lunch, all taxes, admission fees and gratuities.

 

Sun., Sept. 19:  GRANT’S FARM, rated seventh best ranking family attraction nationwide, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: 

            Experience a visit to Grant’s Farm, the 281-acre estate of the late August A. Busch, Jr. The adventure begins at Grant Station where you will board a tram for a tour of the grounds. The tram will wind through the Deer Park - a game preserve where antelope, buffalo and other animals roam in a natural 160-acre habitat.  Pass Grant’s Cabin, a log home built by Ulysses S. Grant, 18th President of the United States, and former owner of the land where Grant’s Farm is today.

            Your tram will then stop at the Tier Garten where you may enjoy elephant and bird shows.  Then stroll to the historic Bauerhof to view the elegant stables and the Busch family’s world-renowned carriage collection. A visit to the Clydesdale stallion barn will complete your visit.  There are a few things that there is a charge for, such as the Merry-Go-Round, There are food and refreshments to purchase at the Bauerhof.

$35.00 includes tour guide, parking at Grant’s Farm, bus fee, driver and gratuities and on-site coordination.

           

A  MINIMUM OF 35 PEOPLE PER BUS IS REQUIRED.  EACH BUS HOLDS 47 PEOPLE

Sept. 16, Thurs: 9:00 a.m.:  Registration in hospitality room.   Bring all Silent Auction items to this room                                                        before 3:00 p.m.  Fellowship, cards, dominos, bar open until 3:00 p.m.

            3:30 p.m.    Silent Auction Committee sets up.

            5:30-8:30:  Social Time and Silent Auction.  Cash bar in dining room.

            6:30 p.m.:  Call for dinner, choice of Roast Pork Loin or Herbed Chicken Breast, $27 inclusive.

            8:30 p.m.   Auction ends.  Pick up and pay for items.

 

 

Sept. 17, Fri. 8:00 a.m.: Coffee & donuts in hospitality room.  (Room remains open all day only if      

            members not going on tour will pledge to host it during those hours.)

            9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.:  LANDMARKS OF ST. LOUIS TOUR & LUNCH - choice of two items.

            9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Hospitality room only if we have volunteer hosts, not going on the tour.

10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: GRANT’S FARM TOUR, $35.00 .  Lunch on own.  See tour page info.

            5:30 p.m. Social hour in dining room. Cash Bar.

            6:15 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.:  Farewell banquet, entertainment, dinner, and last reunion closing.

            Dinner choices: Top Sirloin Steak or Salmon, $32.00 inclusive
